Learning by Grade Level: Pre-School

Your child won't always tell you what they're learning at preschool.

Pre-School - What kids learn

Pre-school education is the time when your child first starts on the road to independence, getting used to being in the school environment, mixing with other children and being away from you.

Pre-school (or nursery) goes from three or four years of age, followed by kindergarten. In both of these, the emphasis is on learning through play. There will be a wide array of toys to choose from, which may be arranged in different tables, allowing them to move from space to space.

Story books will play a large role, and children will be introduced to reading, writing and arithmetic. They may learn to write their name, count to ten, and recognize shapes. The emphasis should not be on specific targets, but on developing their confidence and starting them on the path to enjoyable learning. When children reach the year of their fifth birthday they can start elementary school. You can learn more about child learning on the net.
